PMVA 1 Day Refresher | BILD Certified – GSA Approved

PMVA (Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression) is an essential update when working within any mental health environment. The PMVA refresher course takes one full day to complete, and includes topics such as understanding the stages of the assault cycle, de-escalation strategies and recognising the importance of implementation of early intervention strategies.

All Candidates are required to complete a Health Declaration on the day of the course of which will be assessed by the course tutor.

Due to the physical nature of this course we cannot accept any pregnant candidates on the course, post-natal learners should seek advice from their GP prior to attendance.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify possible causes of violence and aggression in mental healthcare settings
  • Recognise the importance of implementation of early intervention strategies in reducing the occurrence of violence and aggression
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients
  • Identify legal and ethical implications of utilising physical intervention strategies
  • Demonstrate the ability to select and utilise appropriate physical and non-physical strategies to manage an aggressive individual
  • Understand the need to continually assess and evaluate the levels of risk posed by difficult and challenging people
  • Demonstrate how to escape safely from a variety of grabs and holds
  • Candidates will be able to define the role of NHS Protect, LSMS, SMD?
  • Be able to give explanations for aggression – particularly in MH/LD settings
  • Know the stages of the assault cycle, and what each stage means
  • Be able to identify signs of escalation of aggression

Adaptations

Refresher training can be delivered in the workplace as a bespoke course if the workplace has a suitable area for the training to be conducted.

This course can be modified to meet the requirements of learners that may have physical health related conditions and/or psychological trauma which precludes them from effectively participating in the traditional course approach. This can be offered on a bespoke basis.

This course can be adapted to meet the needs of learners with physical disabilities.

This course aims to be fully inclusive to all, however candidates need to be aware that it is a physical intervention course that requires “hands on” physical contact with other candidates and course tutors.

Total course duration including the on-line courses: Approx. 08 hours

If you miss your course, you are welcome to attend another course that is available but please note that you will have to pay the full amount. The trainer has the full right to refuse entry when candidates have missed key elements of the training so please plan your journey the day before. You can reschedule your training outside of 7 days before the training.
