The Chartered Management Institute has released figures which show ‘bad weather’ as the top cause of disruption to UK businesses over the past year, with 77 per cent of organisations affected by the snow this winter.
Managers are estimating an average cost to their organisation in excess of £52,000 and others as high as £1million, according to the report. ‘Weathering the storm’ report explores how prepared businesses are for disruption and the steps it has taken to mitigate those risks. It identified the biggest impacts weather has on the business as reduced revenue, damage to reputation and lost new business opportunities.
Surprisingly, snow barely makes the top ten causes managers feel will disrupt their business despite it causing major disruption for the past three years.
