A new company, Medaphor Group, spun-off from Cardiff University, has released an impressive new product to help train doctors and other medical staff how to use ultrasound.
Called the Scan-Trainer, it is an ultrasound simulator that can be used without supervision or the need for a patient. The company aims to raise additional funds on the public markets to help market their product and build sales. It already sells education devices and training services to 11 countries around the world.
Stuart Gall, the company’s Chief Executive, said: “It is the go-to diagnostic equipment now for a range of treatments as doctors can scan and talk through with the patients what they are seeing on screen. In the past doctors had stethoscopes round their necks. Now every one of them will have iPhone size ultra-sound scanners in their pockets instead and they need to learn the hand to eye co-ordination skills of using them. Our kit does that.”
