David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science, has called for workers over the age of sixty to go back to university to retrain and upskill.
A record number of people are expected to reach 60 years old in 2050 and Willetts believes the additional education and training will help this group remain employable. Figures suggest there will be 19 million over 60’s in 2050. Both the Association of Employment and Learning Providers and the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, feel positive about encouraging learning in later life and are interested to see how the government and universities will support and adapt to older students.
